The Kings List at Abydos is only one of ten lists found in Egypt, and it validates the sequence of Egyptian Pharaohs.  The list contains 76 Pharaohs, starting from Menes to Seti I, covering over 1600 years of history.  Seti created this list to substantiate the rule of Ramesses I, his son, who was the greatest builder of all the Egyptian Pharaohs.

One of the most important and most famous parts of Abydos is the Osirian Tomb.   In the hill of Umm El Qaab, southwest of the Temple of Seti I, the tomb of Osiris was discovered.  Abydos was the center of the cult of Osiris and for that reason archeologists believed it to be the tomb of Osiris, or at least the head of Osiris was buried there.  It is not open to the public at the present time.

Beneath the Pyramids of Giza, there is an entire “ancient world” waiting to be explored, where myth and legend combine.

The massive chamber located beneath the Pyramids of Giza is called the Tomb of Osiris or the Osiris Shaft.  Located underneath the stone causeway of Khafre’s Pyramid is a massive three-story chamber built into the subterranean world below the pyramid.  It is a structure intricately carved with three levels.  Egyptologist Selim Hassan who supervised the excavation of many ancient Egyptian tombs, was one of the first to explore the Osiris shaft in the 1930s.

Seeing some of the monuments built thousands of years ago is like traveling back in time. It’s almost as if, for a short glimpse, you can see what Egypt was like thousands of years ago.
